Explore western Yunnan at an unhurried pace: Heshun’s courtyard lanes, steaming geothermal valleys, volcanic landscapes and Beihai Wetland. Private trips can start in Tengchong itself, with longer journeys connecting Baoshan coffee country or Mangshi.
Choose your travel pace
Two days suit a focused local volcano and wetland visit. Four to five days leave time for Heshun and a managed hot-spring stay. A week allows more nature or a Mangshi extension; the ten-day journey starts in Dali and includes Baoshan coffee country.
When to visit
Spring and autumn often suit walks and village visits. Jiangdong’s golden ginkgo leaves are a late-autumn highlight, commonly around November, but timing varies. Leave flexibility for rain, mist and changing road conditions.
Arriving and choosing a base
Fly to Tengchong Tuofeng Airport and arrange a transfer to Heshun or the city. Check available flights for your dates. Heshun suits courtyard atmosphere; city hotels may offer easier vehicle access. There is no railway station in Tengchong.
