Give Fengqing a full local day if Dianhong black tea is the reason for your visit. Separate Anshi village, a museum or cultural exhibition, an old factory site and a working producer appointment. They can explain different parts of the tea story, but one does not automatically include access to the others.
What kind of tea visit do you want?
| Visit type | Useful for | Confirm first |
|---|---|---|
| Anshi-area visit | Tea-village context and local history | The actual host, meeting point and activity |
| Museum or exhibition | An introduction before tasting | Current opening and English explanation |
| Old factory site | Industrial heritage and buildings | Which public areas are open |
| Producer appointment | Processing questions and samples | Whether production is active and visitors are accepted |
A locked production room is not an invitation to find another entrance. Heritage buildings, exhibitions and working tea spaces may have different opening arrangements. Ask for a named meeting point and an alternative tea-room session if your priority is learning rather than seeing a particular interior. Do not base a day entirely on an old post reporting a building was open.

Build one good local day
| Part of the day | Plan | Keep flexible |
|---|---|---|
| Morning | An agreed garden, Anshi-area host or cultural venue | Walking length and current access |
| Lunch | A proper meal and rest | Dietary needs and where to eat |
| Afternoon | A guided Dianhong tasting or booked demonstration | Live production depends on the host |
| Evening | Return to the same Fengqing base | Optional shopping, with no obligation |
Arrive in Fengqing the previous evening when possible. A pickup at Lincang airport or Yunxian station still involves an onward road journey, so an afternoon arrival may not support the same local program. Choose the gateway before booking a tea appointment. A morning departure on the next day should not carry an essential factory or garden visit.
Understand the processing without expecting a full cycle
Dianhong is Yunnan black tea. A host may explain stages such as withering, rolling, oxidation and drying, but the material and equipment available on a particular day determine what you can observe. A short demonstration is not the complete transformation of your freshly picked leaf into a finished product ready to pack.
Ask whether the session uses fresh leaf, prepared material or finished samples. Confirm if it is observation or supervised hands-on work and how long it takes. Picking needs suitable leaf and owner permission; it should never be advertised as a year-round entitlement. Children can learn through observation without handling machinery or drinking several cups of caffeinated tea.

Make the tasting useful even if you are a beginner
Ask the host to introduce a small number of available teas and explain the differences they can support with product information. Record the sample name, place, harvest information if supplied, and brewing method. Use the same cups and comparable brewing conditions when practical, but do not mistake a casual tasting for a laboratory comparison.
| Before buying | Reason |
|---|---|
| Ask the net weight and full price | A small sample and a gift box are different purchases |
| Keep the product label and receipt | Helps you identify the tea later |
| State your budget politely | A hosted visit does not require an expensive purchase |
| Request brewing advice | The tea may taste different with your water and equipment |
Should you add Lushi?
Add Lushi when tea-caravan heritage and quiet old streets matter enough to justify another road stage. Give it its own time and suitable accommodation rather than treating it as a quick stop after a full tea day. Confirm current road conditions and lodging before committing. Private courtyards remain private even when they appear in photographs online.
For a short visit, staying around Fengqing gives more time for tea and less time packing. A longer route can include an overnight near Lushi, a return night in Fengqing and a separate gateway transfer. If the road is unsuitable, a local heritage-and-tasting day is a better substitute than pressing on to meet a fixed attraction count.
Rooms, meals and language
Ask the hotel about stairs, bathroom facilities, breakfast and the vehicle drop-off point. Send dietary needs before the tea day; tasting venues are not necessarily restaurants. Specify whether English support is required throughout or only for the producer visit. Technical tea discussion needs a different level of preparation from a simple transfer.
Build your route with VeroTrip
Send your arrival hub, number of nights, interest in history or production, language needs and whether you want to include Lushi. Send your dates and preferences. We can shape a written proposal around available hosts and transport. The quotation lists the services, dates, booking terms and alternatives you accept before payment.
