For a first Kunming (昆明) golf trip, choose your courses before your hotel. Stay around Dianchi (滇池) if you want Kunming Lakeview (昆明滇池高尔夫) Golf Club plus city time; stay at Spring City if its two courses are your priority; consider the Anning side for Yulongwan. A three-day visit can accommodate arrival, one dedicated golf day and departure. Four or five days gives you more room for a second round and a weather buffer.
This Kunming golf guide explains course names, hotel bases, tee-time requests and the details that make a quotation useful. It is for visitors comparing their options before booking. For a journey beyond Kunming, start with our Yunnan golf regions guide.

Which Kunming golf course should you choose?
Start with the experience you want, then check visitor availability for your dates. The name “Lakeview” needs particular care: Kunming Lakeview Golf Club beside Dianchi and the Lakeview course at Spring City are different venues.
On a phone, swipe tables sideways to compare all columns.
| Course / club | Why consider it? | Planning consequence |
|---|---|---|
| Spring City Mountainview | Nicklaus design with broad fairways and strategic bunkering | Pairs naturally with a stay at Spring City in Tangchi. |
| Spring City Lakeview | Robert Trent Jones Jr. design by Yangzonghai | Request this course explicitly when booking the resort. |
| Kunming Lakeview Golf Club | Faldo design in the Dianchi area | Compare with a Dianchi hotel if city time also matters. |
| Yulongwan | Lee Schmidt design in Anning | Plan around Anning; do not treat it as a Dianchi-area venue. |
Spring City’s Mountainview course is designed by Jack Nicklaus. Its official description emphasizes broad fairways, terrain and strategically placed greenside bunkers. The Lakeview course, designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., follows the Yangzonghai lakeside landscape and calls attention to narrower fairways, terraced greens and wind. Choose between them by the kind of round you enjoy, rather than assuming the easier-looking photograph tells you the playing difficulty.
Kunming Lakeview Golf Club lists an 18-hole Nick Faldo design at 1505 Dianchi Road. Yulongwan lists a Lee Schmidt design in Taiping New Town, Anning. A club’s location or design does not establish whether a particular tee time, equipment set or visitor rate is available. Make those separate questions in your booking request.
Avoid the two Lakeview booking mistake
Write the full club name and area on the request, the transfer sheet and the hotel plan. “Lakeview golf, Kunming” alone can send a quotation in the wrong direction.
| Put this on your request | Area | Avoid this shorthand |
|---|---|---|
| Spring City Golf (春城高尔夫) & Lake Resort — Lakeview course | Tangchi, Yiliang County; Yangzonghai | “Kunming Lakeview” |
| Kunming Lakeview Golf Club | Dianchi, Kunming | “Spring City Lakeview” |
| Spring City Golf & Lake Resort — Mountainview course | Same resort as Spring City Lakeview | “Spring City, either course” if you want a particular design |
Before paying, match the venue on the tee-time confirmation with the pickup destination. If you want both Spring City courses, request each course by name; two rounds at the resort do not automatically mean one round on each course.
Where to stay: Dianchi, Spring City or Anning?
For one golf day with non-golfing companions, a hotel that also works for their day is usually more useful than the most impressive resort photograph. For several rounds at one resort, staying close to the first tee reduces packing and repeated transfers.
| Your priority | Base to compare | Check before choosing |
|---|---|---|
| One round plus Kunming sightseeing | Dianchi or a city hotel | Door-to-door transfer to the selected club; companions’ plans. |
| Play both Spring City courses | Spring City resort area | Specific course availability on both days and the room-and-golf terms. |
| Yulongwan as the main round | Anning / Yulongwan area | Airport and city transfers as well as golf access. |
| Several clubs in different areas | One practical base or a carefully timed split stay | Total transfers and luggage moves; avoid changing hotel before an early round. |
Use the actual hotel entrance and club entrance when arranging a transfer. A city-level map pin is too broad. Ask for the pickup time after the tee time is confirmed, allowing for check-in, changing and warm-up. If breakfast starts after pickup, discuss an alternative the day before. Avoid a hotel change on your earliest golf morning.
How to request and confirm a tee time
A useful request gives the club enough information to offer an appropriate slot and gives you enough detail to decide. Begin with dates, player count and full course names. Add preferred start windows, playing level and equipment needs; the club can then advise any applicable visitor or handicap requirements.
| Step | What you provide | What you need back |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Set your priorities | Dates, player count, full course names, flexible alternatives | Visitor availability and suitable start windows. |
| 2. Describe the players | Playing level, any handicap information requested, rental needs | Applicable playing requirements and equipment availability. |
| 3. Price the whole day | Hotel location, golf bags, non-playing guests | Itemized golf and transfer quotation with exclusions. |
| 4. Confirm the arrangements | Accepted course, date, time and written terms | Booking confirmation, meeting point and contact for changes. |
| 5. Prepare the day before | Final passenger / bag count and any flight changes | Pickup time, arrival instructions and club weather guidance. |
If the first-choice course is unavailable, decide which element is flexible: day, starting time or club. Do not accept an unnamed “equivalent course” without seeing its location and transfer implications. For a group with mixed abilities, ask whether everyone can play the requested format together and what pace-of-play expectations apply.
Arrange rentals explicitly. Spring City’s golf information describes practice facilities and practice-club rental; that does not establish availability of a complete on-course set for your date. State right- or left-handed preference, whether sharing is acceptable to the club, and any requirements for shoes or specific clubs. Bring your own essential personal items even when a rental set is requested.
Compare the full golf-day cost
Compare quotations with the same date, course and number of holes. A low headline rate can cover a different set of services from another offer. Ask for a clear total and identify anything payable at the club.
| Item | Question to ask | Why it changes the comparison |
|---|---|---|
| Green fee | Which named course, date and number of holes? | Offers for different rounds are not directly comparable. |
| Caddie and buggy | Included, required or separate? Is the buggy shared? | The quoted green fee may not be the golf-day total. |
| Rental equipment | Full set, handedness, shoes and availability? | A range practice club is different from a playing set. |
| Transfers | Hotel–club return? Waiting and extra stops? | Airport, resort and city legs may be separate services. |
| Non-playing guests | Access, cart seats or separate activities? | Companions may need their own arrangement. |
| Cancellation and disruption | What happens after closure or a partial round? | Refund and rescheduling terms should be known before payment. |
Ask how cancellation, a delayed arrival, a weather suspension and a shortened round are treated. These can have different conditions. Keep the club’s written terms with your booking confirmation and confirm who will contact the club if a flight delay changes your plans. This guide does not publish a fixed green fee because the course, date and inclusions need to match your actual request.

How many days do you need in Kunming?
Keep arrival and departure separate from your most important round. The following are planning examples, not fixed departures or promises of tee-time availability.
| Time available | Suggested structure | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| 3 days / 2 nights | Day 1 arrive; day 2 one round; day 3 depart | A short visit with one priority course. |
| 4 days / 3 nights | Arrival; two separate golf days; departure | Two courses without playing immediately after landing. |
| 5 days / 4 nights | Arrival; two golf days; one flexible city / rest day; departure | A less compressed trip or a weather buffer. |
Three days works best when golf is one element of a short break. Four days allows two dedicated playing days without forcing a round straight after landing. Five days is useful for golfers who want more variety, a rest day or time with companions. If your flights leave only one full day on the ground, plan one round well instead of trying to add another club across the city.
A final-day round needs particular care: work backwards from the airline’s check-in requirements, allowing for completion of play, changing, retrieving bags and reaching the airport. If that margin is uncertain, move the round to an earlier day. Keep one person responsible for confirming pickup and storing everyone’s booking details.
Weather, packing and non-golfing companions
Plan around the forecast and the club’s instructions for your playing day. Comfortable city weather does not guarantee the same wind or shower conditions on an exposed course. Carry layers, sun protection and rain protection that fits your golf bag. Follow the club’s suspension instructions during hazardous weather; a travel schedule is not a reason to keep playing.
If you bring clubs, check the airline’s sports-equipment allowance for every flight segment before packing. The vehicle must fit passengers, suitcases and golf bags at the same time. Give the organizer a bag count and approximate sizes, especially if the group has children’s seats or several large travel cases. Keep medicine, documents and a change of clothing accessible rather than packed inside a club case.
For non-golfers, agree a separate plan before choosing the hotel. A Dianchi-area stay may suit a city-and-lakeside day; a resort stay makes more sense when companions want time at the property. Confirm which facilities are available to them and whether they need a separate transfer. Do not assume every club permits spectators or non-playing cart passengers.
For a broader city visit, use our Kunming travel guide to choose sightseeing that fits around the round. Keep a substantial excursion on a separate day if it would make your golf pickup uncertain. The Yunnan season guide helps compare the wider trip, while the short-range forecast is the more useful tool for packing for a specific tee time.
Choose your next step
Choose one or two preferred courses and a hotel area, then send VeroTrip your travel dates, flight times, number of players and non-players, preferred number of rounds, playing level, room needs and equipment requirements. Include whether your priority is a particular course, a relaxed schedule or time exploring Kunming. This lets us discuss a practical combination of golf, accommodation and transfers and identify what needs confirming with each supplier.

Kunming golf questions
Are Spring City Lakeview and Kunming Lakeview the same course?
No. Spring City Lakeview is at Spring City Golf & Lake Resort in Tangchi, Yiliang County, by Yangzonghai. Kunming Lakeview Golf Club is at Dianchi. Include the complete venue name in both your tee-time and transfer requests.
Should I stay at Spring City for the whole trip?
It is a sensible base when its courses are the main reason for travelling. If you also want several city activities or a round at Kunming Lakeview, compare the transfer pattern with a Dianchi or city stay before committing to every night at one property.
Can I book without bringing my clubs?
Ask about a full rental set for your specific round before making that decision. Confirm handedness, set availability, cost and any other equipment requirements. A practice-range rental listing is not confirmation of an on-course set.
Can beginners join a Kunming golf trip?
Tell the club the players’ experience and ask about access requirements and suitable arrangements. A lesson or practice session may suit a new player better than a full round. Do not assume all courses apply the same rules or that a lesson is included in a green fee.
What happens if weather interrupts the round?
Follow the club’s instructions on the day. Before booking, ask for its policy on closure, suspension and partially completed rounds, plus the consequences for hotel and transfer arrangements. Leave a flexible day when playing a particular course is central to the trip.
