Is this trip right for you?

Overseas visitors who want two contrasting western Yunnan bases without a long return drive.

Route: Tengchong → Heshun → Rehai → Beihai → Mangshi

Overnight plan: 4 nights in Tengchong or Heshun, 2 nights in Mangshi. The final day is departure.

When to travel

The cooler, relatively dry months suit city walks. In the wet season, keep outdoor timing flexible and protect against afternoon showers.

How your private trip works

The day plan leaves room for meals, comfort stops and the pace of your party. Road times are planning estimates and may lengthen in rain or holiday traffic. Your final proposal confirms the meeting point, hotels, private vehicle, guiding language, included admissions and any booked workshops before payment. Domestic flights and trains are included only when itemised in that proposal. Travel insurance, personal purchases and meals not specified remain separate.

Tell us your dates, number of travellers, ages of children, walking preferences and preferred room arrangement. We can shorten walks and adjust departure times while keeping the overnight route practical. Hosted visits depend on the host’s availability; no shopping purchase is required.

Daily Itinerary

Meet at Tengchong Tuofeng Airport and transfer to your chosen hotel in town or around Heshun. If you arrive early, take a brief orientation walk near the accommodation. Keep the evening free for dinner and rest. The itinerary does not require a same-day mountain outing, and a late arrival simply means going directly to the hotel.

Overnight: Tengchong or Heshun. Travel and walking: Airport transfer generally 30–60 minutes according to the hotel.

Follow a quieter Heshun route with a guide, pausing at a courtyard and a small craft workspace when a host has agreed to receive visitors. Focus on materials, architecture and everyday use rather than a promised performance. After lunch, spend time over tea and leave the afternoon open for independent browsing. Hands-on activities are confirmed separately so the visit does not depend on finding a workshop open by chance.

Overnight: Tengchong or Heshun. Travel and walking: Local transfers; slow walks on stone lanes with frequent rests.

Steam rising from Tengchong’s geothermal landscape

Visit Rehai on the established paths to see the geothermal landscape, keeping safely away from hot-water features. After lunch, return to a managed bathing facility if you have chosen that option in your proposal. Natural boiling springs are for viewing, not bathing. Travellers who prefer not to soak can use the afternoon for a cafe or rest, with no claim that a hot spring visit treats any medical condition.

Overnight: Tengchong or Heshun. Travel and walking: Usually 1–1.5 hours of driving in total, plus a 2–3 hour scenic visit.

Reeds and open water at Beihai Wetland near Tengchong

Visit Beihai in the morning and explore the open-water and reed landscape from the official paths. Use a boat only if it is operating, suitable for your group and included in your confirmed plan. Take lunch at an unhurried pace, then return to your hotel with the afternoon free. This is a landscape outing, not a promise of particular birds or wildlife sightings.

Overnight: Tengchong or Heshun. Travel and walking: Around 1–1.5 hours of total driving; easy paths with a shorter option.

After breakfast, drive to Mangshi with a comfort stop. Check in and rest through the warmest part of the afternoon before visiting the Golden Pagoda when access and weather permit. Dress respectfully and follow temple photography instructions. This is a domestic journey within Yunnan; no border crossing or cross-border excursion is part of the tour.

Overnight: Mangshi. Travel and walking: Allow around 2.5–3.5 hours with a break, plus city transfers.

Fresh produce at a local market in Mangshi

Start at a local food market when it is active, sampling only items that suit your dietary preferences. Your guide helps explain herbs, produce and the region’s Dai and Jingpo food influences. After lunch, choose a gentle temple or neighbourhood visit and leave time for a cafe. Avoid a checklist of religious buildings; the day works best with a few stops and time to ask questions.

Overnight: Mangshi. Travel and walking: Local driving and short shaded walks.

Enjoy breakfast and leave for Mangshi airport with the agreed check-in buffer. The route finishes here instead of driving back to Tengchong. If your flight is later, keep the morning flexible for a final tea stop close to the hotel. An onward road journey requires its own arrangement and should be confirmed before the tour is booked.

Overnight: Departure. Travel and walking: Local airport transfer usually 30–45 minutes, depending on hotel.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. A Heshun or city base allows separate outings to Rehai, Beihai and the volcano area, with rests between them. Tell us about stairs and walking limits so we can select suitable paths and accommodation.

The hot-water features at Rehai are viewed from designated paths. Bathing is only at a managed facility with its own operating guidance. Follow the posted instructions and choose a non-bathing afternoon if you prefer.

Your proposal itemises the selected hotel, transfers, admissions and any bathing session. Flights are included only when specifically listed. A landscape image does not identify a promised resort or room.

Yes, a one-way route works well with an overnight stay in Mangshi. Allow approximately 2.5–3.5 hours for the road journey with a break. Confirm flights into one city and out of the other before finalising.

Wetland, mountain and volcano plans depend on current conditions. A town-based heritage visit, tea stop or rest period can replace an unsuitable outdoor outing. Your guide confirms changes with you while keeping the overnight route practical.
