Xinjie: check the trade-off

Xinjie offers a town setting and can be convenient for certain transport arrangements, but the exact location affects the drive to viewpoints. Choose it when its services or connections fit your itinerary, rather than assuming it is the same as sleeping beside Duoyishu. A guide and driver can still make a good touring plan from there with realistic early departure times.

From Mengzi, plan roughly three to four hours, depending on the precise station or hotel. Confirm the pickup point in Chinese and leave an additional buffer for any onward train. Do not book an early connection assuming mountain roads will run like an expressway.

For one night, minimise the distance to the dawn viewpoint and keep the afternoon simple. For three nights, prioritise a comfortable room, reliable meals and a base that works for several local outings. You can stay in one property and visit different villages by car. Moving hotels every night usually adds packing time without improving the chance of good light.
