Overview

This 2-day Meili Snow Mountain tour follows the road north from Shangri-La through Nixi and Benzilan to the Deqin area. Pottery, monasteries and the Jinsha River bend give the outward journey its own interest before you reach the mountain viewpoints. Stay overnight near Meili for two opportunities to see the peaks: evening light and sunrise. Return to Shangri-La on the second day. The route is designed around scenic drives and village visits rather than a mountain trek.

Daily Itinerary

Leave Shangri-La for Napa Lake and its surrounding pasture, then stop at Nixi to see the village’s black pottery tradition. Continue to Benzilan and the great bend of the Jinsha River before visiting Dongzhulin Monastery. The road then leads north towards Deqin and the Meili Snow Mountain viewing area. Stay overnight near the mountain viewpoints, with a chance to watch the evening light if the peaks are clear. The hotel is selected with you when booking; mountain visibility cannot be guaranteed.

Rise early to look for the first sunlight on the Meili peaks from the agreed viewing point. After breakfast, leave time for another look at the mountain scenery before returning to Shangri-La. The journey follows the mountain road past the Baima Snow Mountain area, with stops where road conditions permit. Finish at your Shangri-La hotel; allow a separate buffer before any onward flight or train.
