Pickup, hotel access and the local road plan
Use the actual Feilaisi-area property name and address, not simply “Meili hotel.” Check where the vehicle can stop, how bags reach the room and whether the room itself has any view. A property near a viewpoint does not establish a mountain-facing room. Ask about heating, bathroom arrangements, meals and the early-morning approach to an authorised viewing place before choosing the accommodation.
Keep the outward journey selective. An agreed comfort or meal stop around Benzilan can break the road day; a long monastery visit, craft appointment or extra valley drive changes the time left for arrival. Request any paid stop by name and confirm current visitor access. Do not add a high pass, remote track or closed viewpoint because it appears in a photograph or navigation app.

Avoid relying on a remote one-way rental drop-off unless the provider names and accepts the actual handover. A private driver returning the vehicle after your trip is not the same as leaving a self-drive car in Deqin. If no appropriate return is offered, compare a Shangri-La round trip with a driver instead of building the holiday around an unconfirmed branch.
Ask the rental branch about the original passport and driving documents it accepts, permitted drivers, security payment, protection, excess and exclusions.
