Select a few favourite visual references together: open water for Dali, textured streets and riverside light for Shaxi. Your first evening leaves space for both the destination and the practical preparations.

Settle into the hotel selected for your Dali stay. If you are commissioning portraits, use a prearranged afternoon appointment for fittings, hair and makeup preferences, and a discussion of the mood you want. Decide whether Dali or Shaxi will host the main session before confirming suppliers. Garment rental may have geographical or return restrictions, so establish how outfits will travel. Enjoy dinner and a short old-town walk if arrival allows, leaving room to rest rather than adding an elaborate first-evening shoot.

In Xizhou, combine a compact Bai architecture walk with time to sit over lunch and try a local snack if you wish. The lake visit follows permitted access points along a manageable western-shore section. Couples choosing to shoot in Shaxi can enjoy this as a normal guided day, with more time for village details and personal photographs. A separate Zhoucheng workshop is a possible extension when you want an extra cultural day.

Spend the day around a compact section of Erhai and nearby Xizhou. If Dali is your selected photography base, begin with the styling time agreed in your contract and reserve a focused session at permitted locations. If Shaxi is the main shoot, treat today as relaxed sightseeing and personal photography. In Xizhou, appreciate Bai architecture from accessible lanes; a private courtyard or café requires consent and may charge a fee. Avoid filling the schedule with a full lake circuit. Leave time for lunch, a hotel break and weather-related changes.

Travel and walking: Xizhou trips from an old-town base commonly involve 1.5–2 hours of total driving, with time added for the selected lake stops.

Leave after breakfast and enjoy the change from Dali's larger town to Shaxi's quieter valley. After a lunch break and hotel check-in, stroll through Sideng Square and the surrounding lanes, noticing the old theatre setting and trading-town layout. Pause over tea instead of immediately beginning a long countryside walk. Early arrival leaves time to locate the next day's meeting point and enjoy a simple dinner near your accommodation.

Travel by road to Shaxi, allowing breaks and a comfortable arrival window. Shaxi is not a direct stop on the Dali-Lijiang railway, so hotel-to-hotel logistics should be agreed in advance. After checking in, walk through the Sideng area, where a former trading-town layout connects the square, theatre setting and narrow lanes. Use the afternoon to familiarise yourself with walking surfaces and tomorrow's approved meeting points. Keep this a travel and orientation day; a full styled session after the transfer would leave less room for preparation and delays.

Travel and walking: Allow around 2.5–3.5 hours by road with a break; the final allowance depends on the route and conditions.

A slow route from Sideng towards Yujin Bridge brings together stone paving, village rooftops and open river views. Work with the light rather than covering the entire valley: choose a few portrait locations, return for lunch, then leave the later afternoon for tea or a booked craft conversation. If a local market coincides with your dates, it can form part of the sightseeing version of the day. A market is not assumed to operate every morning.

If a Shaxi session is booked, complete preparation before your photographer's agreed start and visit a small sequence of approved village locations. Continue towards Yujin Bridge and the Heihui River when access and conditions allow. Keep equipment compact and leave paths clear for residents. Riverside compositions complement old-town textures without entering crops or protected vegetation. If no Shaxi session is booked, enjoy these places as relaxed sightseeing with personal photographs. After a midday break, keep the afternoon free or arrange an optional hosted courtyard visit with permission. Any photography reschedule needs prior agreement; no ceremony or resident participation is assumed.

Travel and walking: Local walking in short sections; the longer town-and-river route can be shortened to suit shoes, outfits and energy.

Have breakfast in Shaxi and take the road back towards Dali with a comfort stop. If the onward connection is late enough, a brief lakeside pause or lunch near Dali can be discussed after the driver checks progress. The priority is a calm arrival at the station or airport. Couples wanting Shibaoshan's woodland and heritage sites should add a separate Shaxi day, so the return transfer is not combined with a substantial excursion.

Enjoy breakfast before the road transfer back to Dali. Arrange a later train or flight with sufficient margin for the actual road journey, luggage handling and station or airport procedures. An early onward departure may require an extra night in Dali instead. This morning is primarily for travel, rather than a guaranteed replacement shoot. Before leaving Shaxi, check rental returns and confirm how image selection and delivery will work after you are home. Continuing onward to Lijiang is an alternative itinerary ending that can be quoted before booking.
