Families who want room for naps, familiar meals and individual interests rather than consecutive full sightseeing days.

Route: Dali → Xizhou → Zhoucheng → Erhai shore → Dali

Overnight plan: 4 nights in Dali. The final day is departure.

When to travel

Spring and autumn are comfortable for outdoor breaks. Summer requires rain flexibility; winter lake winds may favour village activities.

How your private trip works

The day plan leaves room for meals, comfort stops and the pace of your party. Road times are planning estimates and may lengthen in rain or holiday traffic. Your final proposal confirms the meeting point, hotels, private vehicle, guiding language, included admissions and any booked workshops before payment. Domestic flights and trains are included only when itemised in that proposal. Travel insurance, personal purchases and meals not specified remain separate.

Tell us your dates, number of travellers, ages of children, walking preferences and preferred room arrangement. We can shorten walks and adjust departure times while keeping the overnight route practical. Hosted visits depend on the host’s availability; no shopping purchase is required.

Daily Itinerary

White walls and tiled roofs in Dali Old Town

Meet at Dali airport or railway station and transfer to your hotel. After a rest, take a short orientation walk near the old town if the arrival time allows. Find a convenient dinner spot and discuss how much walking or cycling your party wants. The first afternoon is deliberately flexible, so a delayed train does not mean missing an essential visit.

Overnight: Dali. Travel and walking: Allow 45–90 minutes for the local transfer according to the hotel.

Seasonal farmland around Xizhou

Spend the morning around Xizhou at a child-friendly pace, using short village lanes and established field-edge paths. A willing host may offer a simple craft or food activity arranged beforehand. Break for lunch and return early enough for a nap or quiet hotel time. Children are not taken into working crops or asked to handle farm equipment; the interest comes from observing village life and asking questions.

Overnight: Dali. Travel and walking: Around 1.5–2 hours of total driving; walks kept short and flexible.

Visit a prearranged tie-dye workshop in Zhoucheng and learn how tying and dyeing create patterns in cotton. A simple hands-on piece can be included when the host confirms the activity and drying time. After lunch, walk a short section of the western lake corridor or sit beside the water. Your private car uses permitted roads and meets you at an agreed access point rather than entering a protected cycling path.

Overnight: Dali. Travel and walking: Local road travel around 1.5–2 hours; short walking sections.

A quiet cycling path beside Erhai Lake

Cycle a short out-and-back section of the western Erhai corridor, choosing roughly 10–15 km in total according to your fitness and the wind. Check bike fit, brakes and helmets before leaving. Stop for lake views and a cafe, then return to the agreed meeting point. Walking is an equally good alternative; this is not a full-lake ride, and the route is shortened if weather or crowds make cycling uncomfortable.

Overnight: Dali. Travel and walking: Short transfer to a permitted access point; cycling about 1.5–2.5 hours with breaks.

Enjoy breakfast and leave for the agreed Dali airport or railway station with the appropriate check-in buffer. If you are continuing to Lijiang or Kunming, confirm your train and station transfer in advance. A final lakeside pause is possible only when it fits the departure schedule; it is not added at the expense of a comfortable connection.

Overnight: Departure. Travel and walking: Local transfer usually 45–90 minutes, depending on the hotel.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. The lakeside outing can be a short walk and cafe stop. If you cycle, the guide selects a manageable segment and checks current access; the itinerary does not require a full Erhai circuit.

The pace can be adapted with shorter walks, earlier returns and suitable room access. Tell us ages, mobility needs and whether you need child seats before booking, since availability must be confirmed.

A named workshop and any hands-on activity are confirmed with a willing host for your dates. Drying or shipping a tie-dye or pottery item can take additional time. A hosted visit is not a compulsory shopping stop.

Dali Old Town or a nearby accessible property works well for varied outings. Xizhou suits a quieter village stay. The final proposal confirms the exact hotel, room type and road access rather than promising a generic view room.

We can shorten the ride, replace it with walking or use a courtyard and food visit. Lake paths, mountain routes and outdoor activities are selected according to current conditions.
