Daily Itinerary
Meet at your Kunming hotel in the morning and drive south to Jianshui with a break along the way. After lunch, explore a compact section of the old town and settle into your hotel. This arrival day combines a realistic transfer with a first taste of the town’s food and architecture. An airport pickup needs an earlier arrival or an extra night in Kunming to keep the schedule comfortable.
Overnight: Jianshui. Travel and walking: Allow around 3–3.5 hours by road, plus a lunch stop.
Visit Tuanshan for a closer look at traditional courtyards and timber detailing, then return towards Jianshui for lunch. A prearranged pottery visit introduces the purple-clay tradition; hands-on work is included only if a suitable host and drying or shipping arrangements are confirmed. The historic tourist train can replace part of the road journey when its timetable fits, but is not essential to the day.
Overnight: Jianshui. Travel and walking: Local road transfers around 1–1.5 hours in total; village walking with steps.
Leave Jianshui after breakfast for the mountain road to the terrace area. Stop for lunch and arrive at your guesthouse with time to rest before a Bada viewpoint visit if visibility allows. You stay up in the terrace villages rather than down in the newer county town. Do not plan a fixed sunset deadline: road conditions and cloud cover decide whether the first evening is for photographs or a relaxed dinner.
Overnight: Yuanyang terraces. Travel and walking: Allow 3.5–4.5 hours of driving plus lunch and comfort stops.
Set out early for Duoyishu, allowing time to reach the viewpoint before the changing dawn light. Return to your guesthouse for breakfast and a rest instead of continuing directly into a packed day. In the afternoon, walk a selected village lane and look across the fields from established paths. Your guide chooses the later viewpoint according to the light; a misty morning is a reason to slow down, not to make risky roadside stops.
Overnight: Yuanyang terraces. Travel and walking: Short local drives; early start, midday rest and adjustable walking.
Use a second full terrace day for a guided village-edge walk, looking at how water reaches the fields and how farming shapes the contours. Stay on established routes and ask before entering private plots. Lunch and a long rest break divide the day. The later afternoon remains flexible for another viewpoint, giving photographers a second chance without promising the same light or crop condition as a promotional photograph.
Overnight: Yuanyang terraces. Travel and walking: Local drives and roughly 2–4 km of optional uneven walking.
Enjoy breakfast before descending to Jianshui, with a last viewpoint stop only if the road schedule and visibility are favourable. Check in and take a relaxed old-town evening. This overnight break avoids combining the mountain descent and the entire journey to Kunming into one tiring final day. Keep your camera accessible, but let the driver choose safe places to stop.

After breakfast, leave Jianshui for Kunming by the road or reserved rail arrangement specified in your proposal. The driver helps with the agreed hotel, station or airport drop-off. Keep an adequate buffer for any onward flight and do not add an excursion merely because the road looks short on a map. An overnight stay in Kunming is available if you prefer to depart the next morning.
