The journey begins in Yunnan’s lower elevations and gradually enters the Hengduan mountain region before continuing across eastern Tibet to Lhasa. It combines old towns and river valleys with long motorcycle stages, high passes and a final cultural day in Lhasa.

Rider suitability
This is not an entry-level motorcycle holiday. Riders should have recent experience on mid-sized motorcycles, mountain roads, long descents and variable surfaces. High-altitude health, protective equipment, weather tolerance and group riding discipline are essential planning factors.
Licence and permit notice
A foreign licence alone does not authorize riding in mainland China. Before accepting a booking, VeroTrip must confirm the rider’s eligibility for the required Chinese driving permission, the designated motorcycle category, rental and insurance arrangements, Tibet travel documents and the final route. Regulations and local procedures can change, so this page is a planning outline rather than confirmation that a licence will be issued.
Motorcycle eligibility: A temporary permit for a rental car must not be treated as permission to ride a rental motorcycle. Before confirming this tour, the operator must obtain confirmation from the relevant traffic authority for the rider, licence category, rental or imported motorcycle and proposed route. No motorcycle handover or riding takes place until those requirements are met.
Daily Itinerary
Arrive in Kunming and meet the operating team. Complete document, licence-eligibility and equipment checks before any motorcycle handover. The departure only proceeds after the required Chinese driving permission, designated vehicle category and insurance arrangements are confirmed.
Leave Kunming for Dali on the first long road stage. The operating team confirms the exact riding distance, rest stops and support plan after checking road and weather conditions. Arrive near Erhai Lake and allow time for a gentle evening in Dali.
Ride through the landscapes around Erhai before continuing north to Lijiang. The day introduces the group rhythm for fuel, rest and regrouping. After arrival, explore Lijiang Old Town on foot and experience the lanes, courtyards and Naxi cultural setting.
Continue toward Shangri-La through the mountain and river landscapes north of Lijiang. The sightseeing sequence may use Tiger Leaping Gorge or Baishuitai depending on road access, seasonal conditions and the designated riding plan. Arrive in Shangri-La at a noticeably higher elevation.
Ride past the landscapes around Napa Lake and the Jinsha River bend toward Deqin. A Feilai Temple viewpoint stop may be included when visibility and road timing allow. The route climbs and descends repeatedly, so the support team protects rest time and avoids promising a fixed sunset or mountain view.
Continue through the Lancang River valley toward Yanjing and Markam, entering Tibet on the designated itinerary. The day's stops may include the historic salt-field area and Hongla Mountain viewpoints when open. Border, permit and route checks are built into the operating plan.
Ride through the deep river valleys and pass areas east of Zogang. Steep gradients, construction and changing surfaces can affect timing, so the day's schedule prioritizes safe regrouping and daylight arrival rather than a fixed number of photo stops.
Cross the high-pass section toward Basu and the Nujiang gorge, including the famous 72 Bends when road conditions permit. This is a technically demanding day with long descents; riders must follow the road captain's spacing, braking and weather instructions before continuing to Ranwu.
Begin beside Ranwu Lake and continue through Bomi, Tongmai and the greener valleys around Lulang. Cross the Sejila Pass area toward Nyingchi. Weather can change quickly, and the route may be shortened or adjusted if visibility, rainfall or road works affect the riding plan.
Visit or ride near Basumtso according to lake access and the designated itinerary, then continue on the final road stage to Lhasa. After motorcycle return and equipment checks, settle into the city and keep the evening light for altitude recovery.
Explore Lhasa with a designated local guide rather than riding independently in the city. The usual plan includes the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Street, subject to ticket allocations, security procedures and current local regulations.
The group program ends at the agreed time. Airport or railway-station transfers can be arranged according to the confirmed service sheet. Allow buffer time before onward travel because weather, permits, road conditions and vehicle-return procedures can affect a long-distance motorcycle itinerary.
