Kaifeng
Kaifeng is best experienced through a mix of Northern Song history, city archaeology and street food. Qingming Riverside Landscape Garden offers an accessible historical performance setting, while Iron Pagoda, Kaifeng Prefecture and Bao Gong Temple provide more focused cultural stops.
What to See and Eat
Choose two or three major sites rather than treating the city as a checklist. In the evening, sample soup dumplings, almond tea, fried jelly and local chicken dishes at a clean, well-managed restaurant or market stall recommended by the guide.
Best Time
April to May and September to early November are the most comfortable. Summer is hot and rainy; winter is cold but quieter. One full day covers the essentials, while an overnight stay allows an evening market walk without rushing back to Zhengzhou.
