Turpan
Turpan is one of Xinjiang's most distinctive Silk Road stops, with oasis culture, ancient ruins, grapes and desert heat.
It feels very different from Gansu and gives travelers a strong sense of Xinjiang's geography and history before reaching Urumqi.
