Overview
Take a seat inside Kunming’s Jueyan dining theatre, where a meal unfolds beside live dance, changing projections and lantern-lit scenery. Located at Juehai Lou in Sunac Cultural Tourism City, Jueyan (觉宴) brings Yunnan-inspired dining and performance into the same space. It can be a short cultural meal during a Kunming stay or a longer banquet occasion, depending on the session you choose.
The experience is organised around the stage rather than a conventional restaurant dining room. Screens and lighting change the setting as performers move through the theatre, while guests remain at their dining places. Choose the meal format, session and seating area together: they determine the menu, show length and overall pace of the visit.

Choose your Jueyan dining experience
| Format | Dining focus | Performance reference | Best suited to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Crossing-the-bridge rice-noodle session | Broth, rice noodles and separately presented accompaniments | The brochure describes a compact show of about 40 minutes | A cultural lunch or a shorter stop within a wider itinerary |
| Banquet dining session | A sequence of Yunnan-inspired dishes, with a menu matched to the selected package | The banquet material describes a longer show of about 90 minutes | Travellers making the meal and performance the main occasion |
| Private group or celebration | An agreed menu and event arrangement | Programme, timing and any custom elements are quoted separately | Group travel, business occasions and celebrations |
Booking is by request. These are promotional format references, rather than a single fixed timetable. We will confirm the available session, exact menu, seating and price for your date before you commit. Allow additional time for arrival, seating and any costume appointment; the performance length is not your complete door-to-door visit time.
A theatre that surrounds the dining room
The first-floor hall places dining seats around a central performance area. A scene can shift from rich red light to a cooler projected landscape without guests leaving their tables. The pleasure lies in watching the whole room change: table lanterns, moving performers and screen imagery all contribute to the setting.

Different seats give different perspectives. A place close to a performance route feels different from an elevated view of the room, and a panoramic theatre does not make every sightline identical. Tell us whether your priority is sitting together, being close to the performance or seeing the wider stage, and ask which seating area is available.

Crossing-the-bridge rice noodles, with a performance alongside
The rice-noodle format centres on one of Yunnan’s best-known dining traditions. Broth, fresh rice noodles and ingredients arrive separately, turning the preparation at the table into part of the meal. The brochure shows a multi-compartment tray of accompaniments beside the soup and noodles, with a live performance in the background.

This is a useful choice when you want a memorable meal without devoting the whole evening to a banquet. Ask for the current set menu and side dishes when choosing a session. The photographs illustrate the venue’s presentation; the exact ingredients, portions and accompanying dishes follow the package confirmed for your visit. Follow the staff’s serving instructions around the hot broth.
The banquet option: a longer meal and show
The longer banquet format pairs a sequence of dishes with a fuller performance programme. The reference menu supplied for this experience includes flower tea and a rose-vinegar soft drink, small starters, a pork meatball course, steam-pot chicken, abalone with rice, a passion-fruit fish dish, pork ribs and a sweet finish with fruit and edible fungi. It gives a sense of the style of meal rather than establishing an unchanging menu.
Choose this format if you enjoy the rhythm of several courses and want the dining theatre to be the focus of the occasion. Mention allergies and dietary requirements before booking, especially if you avoid pork, fish or shellfish. Vegetarian, halal or other specialist preparation needs specific confirmation for the selected menu.
Banquet price references
The supplied promotional material lists the following banquet references. They are shown in Chinese yuan for planning and are not a live Vero Trip quotation. The rice-noodle format is a separate package, and its current price should be requested separately.
| Seating area | Lunch reference | Dinner reference |
|---|---|---|
| First floor | CNY 298 per guest | CNY 398 per guest |
| Second floor | CNY 398 per guest | CNY 498 per guest |
Request a dated quotation showing the meal, performance and seating category together. Costume use, makeup, photography, transfers and private-event services should each be identified as included or separately charged. Available sessions and prices may change, including when the venue is reserved for a private occasion.
Lanterns, costumes and the second-floor setting
Jueyan’s decorative setting is part of its appeal: hanging lanterns, traditional-style architectural details and richly coloured foliage make the space worth looking at between scenes. The brochure also presents a second-floor area for a different viewing and dining perspective. The exact table, access and degree of privacy depend on the arrangement booked.

If dressing for the occasion is important to you, ask about traditional-style costume availability and sizes when reserving. Costume hire, makeup, hairstyling and professional photography are distinct services. Their inclusion varies by package, and appointments may need extra time before the meal.
Stories told through dance, costume and light
The supplied programme material includes a production titled Kunming: The Spirit Jade of the Western Hills (《昆明·西山灵玉》). Its romantic storyline follows a divided jade token and two characters through successive lifetimes, with scenes set in ancient Dian, the Tang and Ming periods, the Republican era and modern Kunming. The story builds towards reunion beside Dianchi and the Western Hills.

This is a theatrical story, and Jueyan’s different dining formats can use different programmes. The shorter rice-noodle session should not be assumed to include every scene from a longer banquet. Ask which production accompanies your chosen meal. Dance, costume and visual effects offer plenty to enjoy without following every spoken line; confirm language support or subtitles if understanding the full narrative is important to you.

Groups, celebrations and private occasions
Jueyan’s promotional material describes arrangements for travel groups, cultural receptions, business events and celebrations. A group can request a dining session or discuss a private occasion, with the menu, seating layout and programme planned together. Event services may include a welcome segment, themed staging or other agreed additions.

The material advertises capacity of up to 360 guests, but the usable capacity for your event depends on the seating layout, performance space and venue confirmation. Share your group size, purpose and preferred date before making plans around a private booking. Any branding on screens, altered performance or special ceremony requires a separate agreement.
Getting to Jueyan and fitting it into a Kunming day
Venue: Jueyan, Juehai Lou, Sunac Cultural Tourism City, Xishan District, Kunming. Save the Chinese destination for navigation: 觉宴 · 融创文旅城觉海楼. Confirm the current entrance and drop-off point with your booking information, especially for a group vehicle.
Plan around the confirmed meal time and allow for city traffic. A relaxed city visit followed by Jueyan can work well, while a busy day of distant sightseeing needs more buffer. Our Kunming one-day itinerary can help you choose a manageable daytime plan. If you are comparing evening options, see our Kunming nightlife guide.
For families, ask about child seating, meal portions and ticket rules for your children’s ages. For guests with mobility needs, confirm the route to the assigned seat, step-free access and toilet arrangements, particularly for second-floor seating. The theatre uses music, lighting and stage effects, so discuss any sensitivity to those conditions before booking.
Frequently asked questions
Is this a restaurant meal or a theatre ticket?
It combines dining with a live performance. Choose a package that explicitly includes the meal and show you want, together with the seating area. Makeup or photography options alone should not be confused with a dining reservation.
Does every Jueyan visit last 90 minutes?
No. The materials describe a roughly 40-minute rice-noodle performance format and a roughly 90-minute banquet format. Confirm the actual session and allow time on top for arrival, dining arrangements and any costume service.
Is an English-language performance guaranteed?
English-language narration or complete English subtitles are not confirmed for every session. Ask about the language arrangements for your chosen programme before reserving. The visual staging can still be enjoyed without understanding all the dialogue.
Can our group sit together?
Request this when enquiring and obtain confirmation of the seating arrangement. Group size, available tables and the chosen floor affect what can be offered. A private area or exclusive performance needs its own arrangement.
Can I add Jueyan to a longer Yunnan trip?
Yes, it can be discussed as a Kunming dining and cultural experience within a wider itinerary, subject to availability. Explore our food and culture journeys or start with the Kunming destination page.
Enquire about a Jueyan dining session
Tell Vero Trip your preferred date, guest numbers, lunch or dinner preference, chosen meal format and seating priorities through Plan My Trip. Include dietary needs and whether you want costume services, transfers or a private occasion. We can then discuss availability and a written proposal for the arrangements requested.
