Daily Itinerary

Arrive in Dalian, collect the confirmed self-drive vehicle and complete a route and safety briefing. The rest of the day is free for recovery before the long road journey begins.

Explore Dalian's coastal scenery around Xinghai Bay, Binhai Road and the seaside viewpoints, then drive approximately 300 kilometres to Dandong for the night.

Spend the day along the Yalu River, viewing the historic Broken Bridge, Hushan Great Wall and riverfront landscapes. A seasonal boat trip can be added when local conditions permit.

Drive inland from Dandong to Erdaobaihe at the foot of Changbai Mountain. The long transfer follows forested valleys and ends with an early evening rest before the mountain visit.

Explore Changbai Mountain's North Slope, with Tianchi crater lake, Changbai Waterfall, geothermal springs and forest trails included when weather and park access allow.

Continue from Changbai Mountain to Jingpo Lake. On arrival, enjoy the volcanic lake scenery and visit Diaoshuilou Waterfall before settling in near the lakeshore.

Follow the eastern G331 corridor through Mudanjiang, Jixi and Hulin toward Raohe. The day features broad wetlands, views across Xingkai Lake and long stretches of quiet border road.

Drive from Raohe to Fuyuan and explore the wetlands of Heixiazi Island and China's easternmost riverside landscapes. Visit the local waterfront and prepare for an early start the next day.

Cross the forested foothills of the Lesser Khingan Mountains on the long drive from Fuyuan to Yichun, with scenic rest stops arranged along the route.

Begin among Yichun's forests and continue to Harbin. Arrive in time for a relaxed walk along Central Street and the Songhua River, focusing on the city's secular historic streetscape.

Visit Harbin's Songhua River waterfront and Sun Island before driving to Wudalianchi. Settle in near the volcanic park for the following morning's exploration.

Explore Wudalianchi's lava fields, crater viewpoints and chain of volcanic lakes, then continue north to Heihe on the Heilongjiang River.

Leave Heihe for Huma along the Heilongjiang border corridor. Learn about the region's trading and frontier history at Aihui before continuing through river and forest scenery.

Follow the G331 through Tahe and the Greater Khingan Mountains to Arctic Village near Mohe. This is a full driving day through some of China's most remote northern forests.

Explore Arctic Village, birch forests and panoramic bends of the Heilongjiang River. Stops may include Longjiang First Bend and the winding wetlands around Mohe, subject to road conditions.

Cross from Heilongjiang into Inner Mongolia, passing remote forest settlements and the clear rivers of the Greater Khingan Mountains before arriving in Genhe.

Visit Aoluguya's reindeer culture and the wetlands around Genhe, then follow the Erguna River landscapes toward Heishantou for a grassland sunset.

Drive across the Hulunbuir grasslands, stopping at the Ribbon River, Manzhouli's border district and Hulun Lake before finishing in Xin Barag Right Banner.
