5-Day Gongga Northwest Trek and Lenggacuo Lake Tour
Overview
Quick Answer
5 days from Chengdu back to Chengdu. Liangchahe camp and Ledomain glacial-lake excursion.
Combine the valleys northwest of Gongga with viewpoints and lakes on its western side. The first part uses Liangchahe as a mountain base for the Ledomain glacial-lake walk; the route then crosses toward the village country around Shangmuju and Yulongxi. Zimei Pass and Lenggacuo add a different perspective on the massif. verotrip connects the trekking and road sections while keeping weather-dependent viewpoints flexible.

Good to Know Before You Go
Activity level: Very challenging
Day 2 can be around 26 km and Day 3 includes a high-pass crossing. The itinerary combines trekking with transfers rather than circling the whole Gongga massif. Viewpoints and the Lenggacuo visit depend on access and weather.
Dates and Mountain Conditions
Choose dates after checking current trail access, snow, rainfall and the availability of the required mountain support. Clear views and summit or pass access cannot be promised. verotrip will confirm the operating plan before booking.
Plan Your Journey
Share your dates, group size, previous mountain experience and accommodation preference through Plan My Trip. verotrip will return with a route-specific plan and quotation, including any extra acclimatization nights.
Daily Itinerary
Travel west to Kangding, then continue through Laoyulin toward the Gexi grassland approach. Begin the walk through river, meadow and forest scenery toward Liangchahe. The mountains gradually fill the skyline as the valley opens. Settle into the confirmed camp or shared tent accommodation and go over the following day’s longer outing with the guide.
Overnight: Liangchahe camp
Today’s pace: Around 5–6 hours by road plus 8 km walking

Leave Liangchahe for a full-day excursion through the Riwuqie valley toward the Ledomain lake basin. The route passes beneath several major peaks, with the glacier landscape appearing farther up-valley. Stay on the guide’s safe approach and avoid unstable ice or lake margins. Return to the same camp, adjusting the turnaround point if progress, visibility or conditions make the full lake visit unsuitable.
Overnight: Liangchahe camp
Today’s pace: Approximately 26 km; around 10 hours

Climb from Liangchahe toward Panpanshan Pass through meadow and broken mountain terrain. After the crossing, descend to the agreed road pickup and transfer to the Shangmuju–Yulongxi village area. The contrast between high camp and village accommodation gives a useful pause in the journey. Any additional stop at Quanhua pools depends on available time and current access.
Overnight: Shangmuju or Yulongxi guesthouse
Today’s pace: Approximately 17 km walking plus local transfer

Visit Zimei Pass at the time chosen for the day’s weather and road conditions. Later, make the agreed approach to Lenggacuo, where clear, calm weather can reflect the Gongga skyline in the lake. Keep enough daylight and energy for the descent. A sunset visit requires a specific guide and transport plan; attractive light is never a reason to overrun the safe return schedule.
Overnight: Shangmuju or Yulongxi guesthouse
Today’s pace: Approximate Lenggacuo walk around 10 km return

Leave the western Gongga villages and travel through the Xinduqiao and Kangding corridor toward Chengdu. The road journey offers a final look at the highland pasture and settlement landscape. Rest and meal stops follow the traffic conditions. Spend the night in Chengdu if possible, rather than connecting directly from a mountain road transfer to a flight.
Overnight: Not included; Chengdu night recommended
Today’s pace: Approximately 6–7 hours by road
