3-Day Xi’an to Yan’an, Hukou & Linfen Heritage Route
Overview
Move north from Xi’an through Yan’an to the Yellow River at Hukou, then finish in Linfen for selected temple heritage in Shanxi. Two different overnight bases avoid repeated long returns to Yan’an. This is a point-to-point route with onward travel from Linfen, rather than a short excursion returning to a Xi’an hotel each night.

Your route at a glance
| Part | Plan | Overnight |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Xi’an → Yan’an → selected historical site | Yan’an |
| 2 | Yan’an → designated Hukou visitor area → Linfen | Linfen |
| 3 | Linfen → Xiaoxitian and/or Guangsheng Temple → Linfen departure point | No final hotel night assumed |
What makes this route work
Use Yan’an for the first night and Linfen for the second. The first day’s connection from Xi’an must leave time for the selected historical stop, while Day 2 is the waterfall-and-road day. On Day 3, Xiaoxitian and Guangsheng Temple involve separate road journeys; choose one if your onward departure leaves limited time.

Choose the pace and optional elements
The operating bank and visitor route at Hukou should be named in the plan. Waterfall closures, high water or road disruption can change the day. A visit to a local family or private cave home is not included without a named host’s agreement. Finish in Linfen with a realistic terminal allowance.
Meeting, meals and the service agreement
| Item | Planning basis |
|---|---|
| Start and finish | Xi’an → Linfen. The written plan names the actual meeting and final drop-off points. |
| Duration and nights | 3 Days. 2 hotel nights between the touring days; accommodation is included only when specified in the confirmation. |
| Meals and dietary requirements | Meal stops follow the route. The restaurant, dietary standard and any included meal are specified separately; photographs do not establish a kitchen’s preparation practices. |
| Guiding and transport | Guide language, vehicle or shared arrangement, intercity tickets, internal shuttles and admissions are identified individually in the dated proposal. |
Use this as a route for a date-specific proposal. Tell us your dates, party size, luggage, walking needs and food requirements before services are selected. Only the services specified in the written confirmation form part of the arrangement. Personal travel insurance, immigration requirements and independent travel to or from the route need their own arrangements.

Daily Itinerary
Xi’an → Yan’an → selected historical site
Travel from Xi’an by the specifically arranged rail or road connection and settle in Yan’an. Choose one principal historical site, such as Zaoyuan or Yangjialing, when arrival and admission leave enough time. A second stop is optional rather than a requirement after a delayed connection. Keep the evening for a meal and rest, and prepare a small day bag for the waterfall outing.
Stay: Yan’an. Meals: as specified in the dated itinerary; a meal stop in this outline is not an automatic meal inclusion.
Yan’an → designated Hukou visitor area → Linfen
Leave Yan’an for the selected Hukou visitor area, following the operating notices and designated barriers. Give the river setting time without approaching closed platforms or assuming a particular water level. After the visit and a meal break, continue towards Linfen for the second night. The two overnight bases reduce unnecessary backtracking; this day does not return to Yan’an.
Stay: Linfen. Meals: as specified in the dated itinerary; a meal stop in this outline is not an automatic meal inclusion.
Linfen → Xiaoxitian and/or Guangsheng Temple → Linfen departure point
Choose the temple route around your interests, available admissions and onward journey. Xiaoxitian and Guangsheng Temple are separate places, so retain both only when the road day and your pace allow meaningful visits. Expect steps in historic sites and follow photography rules. Return to the agreed Linfen hotel or departure point with time for luggage and check-in. A morning onward train calls for another night or a shorter final programme.
Stay: No final hotel night assumed. Meals: as specified in the dated itinerary; a meal stop in this outline is not an automatic meal inclusion.
