Choose Spring City’s Lakeview Course for a lakeshore setting with demanding wind and approach decisions; choose Mountainview for an undulating Nicklaus layout with its own water and bunker challenges. If both interest you, request one round on each on separate days. Then choose between a resort base beside Yangzong Lake and a Kunming city base that gives more time for food and cultural visits.
Spring City Golf & Lake Resort is one venue with two different 18-hole courses, not a generic name for every Kunming golf club. A good short break identifies the course, accepted tee time, hotel and complete transfer for each playing day. This guide explains the choices; it does not reserve a round or establish included services.

First, make sure you are choosing the right Lakeview
Spring City is in Tangchi, Yiliang, beside Yangzong Lake (阳宗海). Its two courses are called Lakeview / Lake Course (湖景球场) and Mountainview / Mountain Course (山景球场). The resort’s golf page identifies both and gives the venue’s address.
Kunming Lakeview Golf Club beside Dianchi is a different club. Its own website gives a Dianchi Road address and a Nick Faldo design. “Lakeview” alone is therefore not enough on a quotation or driver instruction. Write the full venue and course name, particularly if a longer itinerary also includes a Dianchi-area round.
Similarly, a room described as being “in Kunming” does not establish a short transfer to Spring City. Compare the actual hotel entrance and club registration point before fixing breakfast or pickup. The municipal destination name covers more than a city-centre stay.
Lakeview or Mountainview: what changes the round?
| Course | Verified design character | A useful preference |
|---|---|---|
| Lakeview: Robert Trent Jones Jr. | 18 holes along Yangzong Lake; wind, gullies and tiered greens. | Lakeshore scenery and thoughtful shot placement. |
| Mountainview: Jack Nicklaus | 18 holes using undulating terrain, with defended greens and water features. | A different layout within the same resort stay. |
These are layout preferences, not a ranking of which course every golfer will find easier. Tee selection, the day’s wind, pin positions and your own game change the experience. Ask for current tees and playing requirements rather than selecting from an old yardage or an undated award.
Lakeview: shoreline, wind and controlled approaches
The club’s Lakeview description emphasises the shoreline, narrower fairways, gullies, wind and tiered greens. Its par-three eighth has a downhill green with the lake behind and to the right; the par-five ninth has a waterside setting that rewards careful positioning. These references give you a feel for the design, not a substitute for the current course advice.
Choose it when the lakeside landscape is a main reason for the visit and you enjoy managing the approach as well as the tee shot. Leave room for a warm-up and a conversation about the day’s wind. An attractive water view should not encourage a tee choice or carry beyond your comfortable game.
Mountainview: elevation changes and defended greens
The Mountainview page describes an undulating course with varied angles and greens guarded by bunkers and rough. It highlights the par-three eighth, where water and sand surround the green, and the closing par-four eighteenth. A “mountain” name does not mean that every hole is remote or every view is away from the lake.
Choose it for a different design experience within the same resort stay. Discuss walking, cart arrangements and any mobility needs for the actual booking; terrain on a course photograph does not establish how every visitor will move through the round. The designer’s Spring City overview separately identifies the Nicklaus Mountain Course and the Robert Trent Jones Jr. Lake Course.

One course, two courses or a practice session?
If you have one spare golf day, choose the layout you most want to experience and treat the other as an alternative only if acceptable. If the particular course matters, record it before paying. “A Spring City round” should not silently become either course according to availability.
With two golf days, one round on each gives a meaningful comparison without changing venue. Keep the rest of those days flexible rather than treating the end of eighteen holes as an exact appointment. Check-in, warm-up, pace of play, a meal and the return all occupy time.
The resort lists a practice range and club rental for practice. That does not establish a complete rental set for your round. Specify handedness, set contents and any equipment preference separately. A beginner should ask for a defined lesson or practice session, with the actual coach, language and equipment agreed; a scenic eighteen-hole outing is a different purchase.
Where to stay: Yangzong Lake or Kunming city?
| Base | Why choose it | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Yangzong Lake resort | Keep two Spring City playing days together. | Agree the room location and companion activities away from the city. |
| Kunming city hotel | Prioritise food, culture and independent non-golf days. | Both golf days need complete road transfers. |
| Split resort and city stay | Combine a concentrated golf block with city time. | Packing, checkout and club-bag handovers use time. |
The resort accommodation page describes rooms, suites, villas and other lodging formats. Select the actual category and location rather than assuming that every product has the same view, stairs, restaurant access or distance from golf registration. A villa can suit a party but is a different room arrangement from individual hotel rooms.
A resort base is useful when the two Spring City rounds are the centre of the break. A city base is useful when the non-playing days matter equally and you accept the golf-day road transfers. Moving between them can work, but check-out, club-bag storage and the post-round transfer must be planned together.
For a short trip, changing hotel every night often creates more work than it removes. Compare the full cost and effort of two returns from town with the packing and handovers of a split stay. Ask for a door-to-door estimate for the actual addresses; this guide promises no fixed drive time.
A four-day, three-night break with two rounds
This editorial example uses one accommodation base and assumes the accepted playing dates work. Choose the hotel after comparing the transfer and companion plans. Neither the example nor an extra night guarantees course availability.
| Day | Main plan | Overnight or departure |
|---|---|---|
| 1: arrive | Reach the selected hotel; settle in and establish the next course meeting point. | Night 1 at the chosen base. |
| 2: first round | One named course, with warm-up, meal and return left workable. | Night 2 at the same base. |
| 3: second round | The other course, or an agreed alternative if the party prefers. | Night 3 at the same base. |
| 4: depart | Collect all bags and make the complete airport or station transfer. | No fourth hotel night. |
Two consecutive playing days are optional. For five days and four nights, place a shared non-golf day between the rounds: arrival; first round; a shared outing or rest day; second round; departure. This can be more comfortable for a mixed-interest couple than adding another course.
When a late arrival, early departure or onward flight reduces the usable time, remove a round or add a night. Do not preserve the same two-round table while squeezing a full round into an unsuitable departure morning.
Give a companion a real plan
A non-golfer should choose the day they actually want, rather than assume that waiting at the clubhouse or riding a cart is included. Clubhouse access, riding along and use of resort facilities need their own conditions. One player’s tee time does not establish another person’s access.
The resort’s activity page lists options such as a Yangzong Lake walk, farm visit, craft activity and beginner golf session. Use these as questions for your date, not a guaranteed timetable or English-led programme. Choose one confirmed activity and a meal or rest period; do not rely on every listed session operating.
If the companion wants Kunming’s old streets or a substantial museum visit, a city hotel and independent transport may make more sense than a resort-only day. Agree the return and reunion without making the companion wait for an uncertain golf finish. The golf-holiday guide for couples develops these parallel schedules.
Arrival, club bags and the complete departure
Start with the actual flight or train and the number of suitcases and club bags. A vehicle with enough seats may still lack luggage capacity. Send bag dimensions and the number of travellers before selecting the vehicle, particularly for a group carrying several full sets.
Keep arrival day flexible. Airport formalities, delayed bags and road travel are poor foundations for a tightly timed first round. If a bag is delayed, establish whether an acceptable rental set can be supplied rather than assuming that practice-range clubs solve the problem.
After the final round, allow time for changing, food, collecting stored bags and the full airport or station transfer. A driver waiting at the resort is not the same as an already workable connection. If travelling onwards by rail, use the golf-club baggage guide before relying on a standard suitcase allowance.
Booking, weather and the actual price
The resort publishes English golf and reservation information, but that does not confirm a tee time, current visitor eligibility or a room for your party. Establish the accepted booking and document method for overseas players, any current playing requirements and the original document to carry. An English website does not establish that every caddie or coach speaks English.
Request the green fee, caddie arrangement, cart basis, equipment, transfers, waiting, rooms and meals as named inclusions or separate costs. Ask how a non-player is charged and whether any compulsory charge remains payable locally. Do not compare a practice session, a single round and a stay-and-play offer as if they were the same product.
Lake wind is part of the design discussion, while rain, lightning or maintenance may affect the actual booking. Ask what happens after suspension or closure, how an alternative course is agreed and which hotel or transport charges remain. A replacement round or sightseeing day is not automatically free.
Carry suitable layers, rain protection and sun protection for the date. Follow the club’s actual operating and safety directions. No photograph, seasonal slogan or “year-round” description guarantees suitable weather or playing conditions on your day.
A fuller published route to compare
The existing five-day Kunming golf and sightseeing itinerary includes separate Lake and Mountain rounds, a further Dianchi-area round and a move from a Yangzong Lake resort to the city. It is a fuller, three-round route with sightseeing, rather than the slower same-base, two-round example above.
Read its daily sequence before choosing it. An outing after golf still needs enough time after the accepted tee time and actual pace of play. This guide does not transfer that itinerary’s meals, vehicle or accommodation into a new booking. Price on request means the date, party and written service scope must be settled together.
Questions about a Spring City golf break
Are Lakeview and Mountainview at the same resort?
Yes. They are the two Spring City courses beside Yangzong Lake. Kunming Lakeview Golf Club beside Dianchi is another venue, so use the full name on the proposal and transfer instructions.
Which should I play first?
Choose the course whose setting and design interest you most, subject to an accepted tee time. If playing both, use separate days and keep the later schedule flexible; there is no universal easier-first order.
Must I stay at the resort?
A resort stay is one planning choice, not an automatic condition established by this guide. Ask about the current golf booking terms, then compare the actual room and transfer arrangements with a Kunming city base.
Can my companion use all the facilities while I play?
Only when the selected facility or activity admits them on the agreed terms. Establish riding-along, clubhouse, recreation, activity and transport arrangements separately from the golfer’s booking.
