Luoyang from Xi’an by Rail: Longmen & an Optional Shaolin Extension
Overview
Take a date-specific train from Xi’an to Luoyang for a day focused on Longmen Grottoes. Shaolin Temple is a possible second excursion when an early arrival and late return leave enough time for both sites and the road between them. This outline deliberately protects the main visit instead of promising that every rail timetable fits a two-site day.

What makes this route work
Use the actual Xi’an departure station and Luoyang arrival station shown on your tickets. Longmen’s riverbank paths, cave steps and the transfer to a second site all need time. If Shaolin is important, consider finishing at a Luoyang hotel rather than trying to catch a tightly timed return to Xi’an.
Choose the pace and optional elements
A train ticket, local guide, car, admissions and any luggage arrangement are separate parts of the proposal. There is no assumed express entry or guaranteed martial-arts demonstration. Choose Longmen alone if the usable day is short or the party wants a less hurried visit.

Daily Itinerary
Xi’an → Luoyang Longmen station → Longmen Grottoes → optional Shaolin → agreed station or hotel
Take the agreed train to Luoyang and meet the local arrangement at the correct station exit. Visit a selected part of Longmen Grottoes before lunch, allowing for the riverside walk and steps. Shaolin requires a separate road journey and is retained only when the remaining hours allow a worthwhile visit and the return transfer. Otherwise continue with Longmen or a shorter local afternoon. End at the booked return station or a Luoyang hotel. Keep the final train and onward journey separate from any optimistic headline travel time.
Stay: No hotel night in a day-return plan. Meals: as specified in the dated itinerary; a meal stop in this outline is not an automatic meal inclusion.
